December's News

The month of December has been a bit busy for the students and myself. The students had a great Christmas concert and have been busy making gifts for their parents as well as trying to fit in all the regular subjects that we do everyday. We will be going to a play put on by Ms. Hagen's class, a storybook reader, and making snowmen for the front showcase next week. We will also be having our Christmas party next Tuesday. The students can bring in board games if they have one they want to share.
Our next spelling test will be on January 9th.

The students finished their unit on electricity creating flashlights from a paper tube, wire, light bulb, masking tape, and a cell. They were amazed to see their flashlights light up. They now understand an open and closed circuit.

The boys dressed in their costumes.

The third graders also had vision and hearing screening last week. We also celebrated Unity Day by wearing orange.

Week 6 & 7

A third grade student did a science experiment at home and shared it with us. This is Alan making Gak.

We are studying electricity. The students were given a wire, a bulb and a battery. They had to try many different ways to light the light bulb. So Fun!

The students are reading Time For Kids. This is a magazine we read and learn about current events.

Wright Hennepin Cooperative Electric came and demonstrated where electricity comes from. They also demonstrated what we need to do to be safe when we are around electricity.

Week 4 & 5

We learned about bus safety last week. The students  enjoyed practicing for an emergency exit.
We did a science experiment and learned about expanding and contracting. They had to make a booklet and explain what happened during the experiment.

After the first month of school, the students are excited to start reading chapter books.  They select two chapter books and add them to their book boxes.

Our first art project is displayed in the front entrance. Stop by and check out our artists.

Week 3

We had our first Storybook Reader this week. Marie Mavencamp is a volunteer Storybook Reader and does a wonderful job reading to our students. Ask your child who Molly Lou Melon is.
We finished our first art project and displayed them above our locker. Stop in and see your child's art work. The theme for this project is titled - Remember... What's different about You can also be what is GREAT about You!

We spent two mornings working on our reading and math NWEA's. The students tried hard.

Friday Fun!! The students earn 20 minutes on Friday afternoon if they practice their Irish Pride during the week. They also won the Golden Dust Pan for having the cleanest classroom in the primary hall.

1st Day of School

Our first day of third grade was great! We explored our classroom and talked about Irish Pride - Being Respectful, Ready, and Responsible.

A highlight of our day was helping to prepare the school garden. Our job was to help fill the new raised gardens. We learned that the rain from the weekend compacted our soil which made it a bit hard to work with but still had fun and we will try again later this week.
